/NL/ De vrouw die de dubbele helixstructuur van DNA als eerste wist te vangen op kwalitatief hoge röntgenfoto’s, Rosalind Franklin, had een dramatisch levensverhaal. Ondanks haar ontdekking deelde ze niet mee in de Nobelprijs die Watson & Crick voor de beschrijving van deze dubbele helix ontvingen. Op de universiteit mocht ze als vrouw niet in de lunchroom van haar mannelijke collega's komen en ze werd niet voor vol aangezien. Franklin’s leven eindigde voortijdig; ze stierf op 37-jarige leeftijd aan de consequenties van waarschijnlijk een teveel aan röntgenstraling. Dit wordt een voorstelling over haar bijzondere levensverhaal, een ode aan het leven van een vrouwelijke wetenschapper die meer erkenning verdient.
Hoogtepunt van de voorstelling is de mini-opera van de bekende Vlaamse componist Annelies Van Parys, in regie van regisseur Kenza Koutchoukali met zangeres Bernadeta Astari als solist. Voorafgaand aan deze ‘mini-opera’ vertelt historicus, schrijver en theatermaker Eveline van Rijswijk over het leven van Rosalind Franklin en haar betekenis voor de wetenschap. Haar verhaal wordt afgewisseld met muziek voor viool en sopraan
/EN/ The woman who first managed to capture the double helix structure of DNA on high-quality X-rays, Rosalind Franklin, had a dramatic life story. Despite her discovery, she did not share in the Nobel prize that Watson & Crick received for the description of this double helix. At university, as a woman, she was not allowed in the lunchroom of her male colleagues and she was not considered full. Franklin's life ended prematurely; she died at the age of 37 from the consequences of probably too much X-rays. This will be a performance about her extraordinary life story, an ode to the life of a woman scientist who deserves more recognition.
The highlight of the performance is the mini-opera by renowned Flemish composer Annelies Van Parys, directed by director Kenza Koutchoukali with singer Bernadeta Astari as soloist. Prior to this ‘mini-opera’, historian, writer and theatre-maker Eveline van Rijswijk talks about the life of Rosalind Franklin and her significance for science. Her story is interspersed with music for violin and soprano.
