Eco... del vuoto (in memoriam Luc Brewaeys) / Worldpremière
Concertgebouworkest, Amsterdam (NL)
Conductor Kristiina Poska is making her Concertgebouworkest debut with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (‘Eroica’), an undisputed high point of the orchestral repertoire. The composer initially intended to dedicate the revolutionary work to Napoleon, but furiously scratched out the dedication when the latter proved himself to be a vulgar, power-hungry despot. Over 200 years later, Beethoven’s ‘Eroica’ still sounds fresh, innovative, brazen and energetic.
Poska is also conducting Mendelssohn’s popular Violin Concerto. In recent years, soloist Alina Ibragimova has taken the music world by storm with her brilliant and intelligent performances. Her Concertgebouworkest debut in March 2019, when she performed Schumann, was a sign of great things to come.
The Belgian composer Annelies Van Parys honours her former teacher Luc Brewaeys, who died far too young, with a work commissioned by the Concertgebouworkest. Her astounding style makes Van Parys a totally original voice in contemporary music.
